Marcelo Bielsa and Leeds are probably the most scrutinised team to be promoted to the Premier League in recent years, both Leeds and Marcelo Bielsa hold incredible pedigree in the world of football. In the 2003–04 season Leeds were relegated from the Premier League (at the time known as the Barclaycard Premiership) after 14 consecutive seasons in England’s topflight division during the club’s financial crisis. Leeds boasts an impressive handful of legendary premier league players, James Milner, Gary McAllister, Rio Ferdinand, Harry Kewell, Mark Viduka, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and many others. They have won 3…

The saying that one should hope for the best but expect the worst is a succinct summary of where things lie with racism in football. The game takes steps forward and a few steps back until you realise that it hasn’t moved forward, and that the issues dogging it yesterday remain the issues of today, and most likely tomorrow.

The latest entry is Ondrej Kudela stepping forward to Glen Kamara and allegedly saying “you’re a fucking monkey, you know you are.” It came during the ending moments of Rangers’ game with Slavia Prague. Kudela and…

Liverpool’s decline was embodied by a point in the second-half when deep in Chelsea’s half, the Blues were surrounded. And yet, as if it were a training exercise, they were able to move the ball without any threat, through Liverpool’s line. It was a small detail yet one that told the story of the match, and of Liverpool’s implosion since Christmas.

Another defeat at Anfield after years of not losing there is a bitter pill to swallow. A sense of decay has settled around this team. The combinations aren’t working, the cohesion is gone…

After the successful spell that Liverpool have had over these last few seasons, they are now facing their toughest test to date, both mentally and physically.

In the 2018/19 season Liverpool won the UEFA Champions League, beating Spurs 2–0 in Madrid. The following season (in preseason) they then won the UEFA Super cup over Chelsea on penalties. They headed into the 2019/20 season full of confidence and quite a few people tipped them to win the Premier League title. How right they were, Liverpool clinched their 19th English title, and their first ever Premier…

Olivier Giroud has always got the short end of the stick. Derided for missing chances at Arsenal, ridiculed for not scoring a goal in France’s world cup winning run, and kept out of the team by other strikers at Chelsea. Yet, there is no doubting his quality.

The Frenchman’s transfer to Chelsea was absurd in a way. Antonio Conte had won the Premier League with a fit and firing Diego Costa, yet within a couple of months, they had fallen out. It led to the striker being frozen out of the team and the…

In terms of popularity sports-wise worldwide, quite evidently football statistically and logically gets the upper edge in that department, with over 3.5 billion fans internationally, compared to runners-up cricket which averages 2–3 billion fans worldwide. In the continent of North America, however (more specifically the United States of America and Canada), it’s a different story, with American football, basketball, ice hockey and baseball being more popular than football. Football in America is considered to be more of a women's’ sport, hence why the US women's team has been more successful than the men’s team overall.

Kyilian Mbappe picked up the ball and began running away from Lionel Messi and his teammates. It was a surge of speed that devastated the Argentine’s team time and time again. They could not live with him and they certainly could not keep up with him. It was like chasing a lightning bolt, several of them striking Messi and co to shreds. By the end, Mbappe stood tall over a deposed Messi.

This was not Barcelona versus PSG, not yet. This was France versus Argentina in a sun-soaked Russia where there was an audience to…

Since signing for Norwich City in 2018, Buendía has become one of them players that you just have to watch. The Argentine Attacking Midfielder has put in a lot of mesmerising performances over these last few years. His form has had him tracked by a number of PL clubs, such as Arsenal who got the closest to signing him.

Here are his goals and assists stats in each of his seasons for Norwich so far:

English coaches are, rather surprisingly, an uncommon commodity in the current top flight. Indeed, no English manager has won the league title in the Premier League era! The last English manager to win the league title was Howard Wilkinson, who was the manager when Leeds United finished top of the table in 1991–92.

Naturally then, the media has a tendency to hype up any and every British coach that steps into the limelight. For a long time, Roy Hodgson represented the pinnacle, and then there was Sam Allardyce. Allardyce, famously, had an extremely short-lived…

Manchester United’s Axel Tuanzebe and Lauren James have been targeted with online racist abuse

The inevitability of racism is such that even those who you might think would surely be beyond its reach, are ensnared, victims of a social illness that Britain perpetually struggles with. Marcus Rashford might be the young man fighting his government to ensure that the accessibility of food for children is not lost, but he’s also a black man. And that, is too much for some people.

Many people will say that football is witnessing the return of racism. Players have become targeted as racism has transferred from terraces to social media as, protected…
