The teenage sensation. A kid who is morphing into a man right before our eyes. This 17 year old attacking player has a lot of hype surrounding him, and rightly so. Harvey Elliott is currently on loan at Championship side Blackburn, from Liverpool, where he is learning his trade.

Elliott plays on the right wing but he is also capable of playing in a CAM position. When playing on the right wing, as he is left footed, he has the option to cut inside and find himself in small pockets in central areas. This is where he gets on the half turn and threads the ball through to his teammates. When he plays on the wing he likes to stay tight to the touchline and offer width for his side, by giving them a switch of play option. By doing this it stretches the opposition shape and if he receives it he will be isolated 1v1 with the full back.

Here’s Elliotts player profile and heatmap:

Elliott, despite only joining the club a couple of months ago, is already Blackburns key creative spark and most of their moves flow through the Liverpool loanee. With his wicked left foot, the teenager’s vision, weight of pass and positional awareness is a recipe for success.

He is a real dangerous threat in the final third. Already showing efficiency and effectiveness in his end product at just 17 years of age.

This clip I’m going to show you underlines just how good Elliotts ability is already. He is well suited to a quick transitional style of football as he has pace and vision to pick off teams. Wherever he is on the field he will always have something up his sleeve to unlock the defence.

Look at his passing stats below:

This speaks for itself, his ball playing ability is off the charts. It’s visible just how accurate he is at setting teammates up. “Succ. Passes to penalty area” and “succ. Through balls” also shows how excellent his pass selection and execution is.

He has really impressed me this season. I didn’t expect him to perform to such a high standard from the get go. In what is such a tough and physically demanding league, he has proven that he is up to the task. He is showing us all that he is more than capable of matching the Championships physicality. Additionally he has demonstrated that he is technically on a much higher level than the average attacking player, in the Championship.

The graph below gives you a good indication to how effective he is in each game. In terms of chance creation/expect assists he is up there as one of the very best in the league.

Again, for a 17 year old he is showing us a level of maturity and composure in his game in addition to his supreme technical skills and football IQ.
